Borena Saynt Werehimeno National Park has different topographical features ranging from lowland to highland mountains, Borena Saynt Werehimeno National Park (formerly known as Denkoro Chaka state reserve) is found in South Wollo between Borena, Mehal Saynt, and Saynt Woredas of the central Amhara development corridor of Ethiopia.
It is the home of different mammals, amphibians, and birds. Large mammals, namely the Ethiopian wolf, Gelada baboon, Stark’s Hare, and Menelik’s bushbuck are found in the park. The landscape of the park is composed of rough topography, deeply incised valleys, escarpments, plateaus, cone-shaped peaks, and fascinating cliffs.
The Park is located about 600km from Addis Ababa through Debre Birhan, 300 km from Bahir-Dar through Merto Lemariam and 200 km south west of Dessie town. It has been surrounded by traditional agricultural practice, most parts are inaccessible via vehicle but the marvelous views of the scenery are captured when traversing on foot. There are only only potential camping grounds are available in selected places of the park with self contained. There are some economic hotels which are found in Mekane Selam town, around park’s Head Quarter.
