Loka Abaya National Park has complex topography which includes hills, uplands, plains, lake, grasslands, wetlands, gorges, riverine forest lands, valleys, etc. There is no specific rainfall and temperature in the Loka Abaya National park area. There are two rainy seasons; July to September (heavy rains) and February to April (light rains) the remaining months of the year are sunny. The park system keeps important water bodies like Lake Abayahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Abaya and Bilate River. African Wild dog, greater kudu, and many bird species can be easily spotted.
The Park has an asphalt road connection with Addis Ababa, a distance of 353 km to the south on the main Hawassa- Dilla road. Hawassa airport operates daily flights from Addis Ababa, 110 km from park head quarter. The Park has inadequate Motorable roads that make most parts of the park inaccessible.
There are only potential camping grounds around at head quarter and selected sites inside the national park. Aragash lodge at Yirgalem, 40 km from the park HQ and economic hotels at Loka and Yirgalem town. But, many alternative accommodations are available at Hawassa town.
